Let's NOT...
Georgetown law professor trashes the constitution on CBS Sunday Morning's Opinion segment. Here's the CBS Sunday Morning opinion piece.
(CBS News) Is the U.S. Constitution truly worthy of the reverence in which most Americans hold it? A view on that from Louis Michael Seidman, Professor of Constitutional Law at Georgetown University:
I've got a simple idea: Let's give up on the Constitution.
I know, it sounds radical, but it's really not. Constitutional disobedience is as American as apple pie.
For example, most of our greatest Presidents -- Jefferson, Lincoln, Wilson, and both Roosevelts -- had doubts about the Constitution, and many of them disobeyed it when it got in their way.
To be clear, I don't think we should give up on everything in the Constitution. The Constitution has many important and inspiring provisions, but we should obey these because they are important and inspiring, not because a bunch of people who are now long-dead favored them two centuries ago. More

But it's really not radical sounding? Please Professor Louis Michael Seidman, do the United States of America a favor and LEAVE! Give up on the Constitution? Been drinking the Cool Aid again?
ReplyDeleteSounds good. Lets give up on the Ten Commandments as well - and, burn the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and hey - LETS THROW IN THE BIBLE! Yes, we "modern" "progressives" - the same ones who have declared America to be a "multicultural" nation, made up of a "diverse" society of strangers from all over the world here with THEIR great ideas, customs, and cultures. TO HELL with the Judeo/Christian society our nation was FOUNDED UPON! Yeah - the same one men fought for and died for to make this the greatest country in the world...for who? You and me, Americans? No. For all those "strangers" that have no idea of what we are talking about, but have a job now (taken from some American) and can continue to live the good life, and in twenty years, retire with a good government pension from Uncle Sammy and get free things for their kids (like education at $100k a pop, paid for by the stupid Americans!)
ReplyDeleteYeah. This is the greatest place on earth. For everyone. Except Americans.
